The car. Oh, where to start. It's old. It has 135,000 miles on it. It's our only transportation. The front brakes need to be fixed. Now. We already ruined the rotor on the front right. The estimate? $525.00. We're already overdrawn this week and have to wait until Friday to take it in.
I hate bills.
It also bugs me that some people say that money is super tight for them and then go buy new furniture and eat out and go shopping. I try to shuffle as best I can with what we've got, but I find myself wishing more and more that we would win the lottery.
If I won the lottery...
~I would get 2 new vehicles. I want a Yukon and DH can get his truck. We would be able to afford the gas :o)
~I would pay off the house and all bills.
~I would put hardwood floors in the house.
~I would build a wrap-around deck.
~I would get a satellite dish or digital cable.
~I would decorate the house.
~I would buy a new wardrobe.
~I would buy bikes, rollerblades and skis for the whole family.
~I would build the addition we've talked about.
~I would get new furniture.
~I would open a quilt shop. DH would manage it for me.
~I would travel around the US in an RV (the bus ones like touring singers have, that cost about $80K)
~I would give a bunch away to charity.
~I would invest enough to live off of the interest.
Back to reality. I'm thinking about getting a part-time job, even though we have agreed it's not the best idea. Either that or Joe has got to get a promotion soon. It's been almost a year like this and I'm starting to want new things and go places again.

It's Tuesday already. Yikes! The last 5 days have just flown by.
I got to scrapbook today! I got together with the 2 neighbors this morning, while all 5 kids played on the other side of the gates, hehe. I didn't get a whole lot done, but it was fun to just get out of the house and show off the albums I've got in progress right now. We were there for just under 4 hours.
Yesterday (Monday) was my day off! I was in my pj's until early afternoon and then put on jeans so the kids could go out and ride their bikes.
Saturday and Sunday were busy. Joe had the weekend (plus Friday) off of work. We had Grace's birthday party on Saturday afternoon. It was supposed to be at 1pm, but there was a conflict and we started at 2pm instead. I bought stuff to make Foamie door hangers as a make-and-take treat for the kids - BIG HIT! I ate too much cake and drank too much pop. Sunday was to be Grace's best friend's party, but that was changed due to an emergency after church. We still had cupcakes and the kids played for several hours. Sunday was also our 7th anniversary :o)
Speaking of anniversaries, I have to make steak for dinner tonight. I was planning it for Sunday, but we were delayed enough that I didn't want to cook when we got home. I hate steak. I would rather have ramen. So here I am on the computer, instead of cooking my husband his favorite meal. Well, I should clarify, cooking steak and a side dish for DH, something the kids will eat (entirely different) and then piecing a meal together for myself. It's no wonder I feel like I'm a short order cook sometimes.
At least it's not fish. We were given a fish tank yesterday, with 4 fish. It involved rearranging the entire living room, a fight between DH and I and the removal of a broken stereo. I finally got the tank filled (9pm) and let the tank sit overnight. Today, I have killed 2 fish...
DH is home. Off to the kitchen.

Where to start... I've got a million things running through my head right now. This is what happens when I look through the ads in the paper.
Looking for things for Grace's birthday party, buy a new scale on sale at Fred's, gotta plan the garden, should I plant roses?, baby gifts, gotta dig out that quilt top, bedding set for Tristan, oooh luggage! (nevermind, I'm not going anywhere), pajamas are on sale, I want to paint but what's the difference between eggshell and satin?, scrapbook stuff...
It's no wonder I make lists :o)
I got Joe's scrapbook album mostly done yesterday. I gave it to him last night as an early anniversary present. I need his help to label all the pictures and then I'll add stickers and put page protectors on. It was the first time I've worked with an 8x10 album and I can't wait to dig out my 12x12's! I didn't put in 4 pictures because there wasn't room on the pages. It did go together pretty fast though. I had half of the pictures stuck down before yesterday (9 pages, 18 if you count front and back separately) and finished the other 9 yesterday. I has ALL of the pictures we have of him from birth to graduation.
Now I've got to get the house picked up for the party on Saturday afternoon - I think I'll quilt instead :o)

Catch up time...
I was up early this morning to get a pile of crap to the front of the house so that one of those charity groups can pick it up. I got most of the garage cleaned up, sorted all but 3 bags that was left and caught a HUGE spider. I'm going to need to add an additional can to the garbage pick up for the next 2 weeks in order to get it all out of here.
Yesterday - President's Day. I took the day off. hehe. I did spend a lot of time on the computer and on the phone with Mindy, but I also got bills paid, sheets changed and laundry done. Joe worked down in Seattle (he'll be there until Thursday) and I had a bit more time in the evening to myself due to his longer commute. I should have done something more productive, but I started a new book!
Sunday...We made a day trip to P.A. to see Flo. She is officially a Marine!! It was a long day in the car, but seeing Flo's surprise was worth it! I didn't tell anyone we were coming and they were all surprised actually! After spending a couple of hours, we went out to eat. Joe took us to a restaurant were he worked (in high school) and had a FABULOUS meal. It was very romantic, if you ignored the 2 kids at the table. The kids were very well behaved. I know of very few people that would take a 2 and 3 year old to a fancy restaurant and expect them to behave. We got home a little before 9 pm.
Saturday...Valentine's Day. Pretty non-eventful around here. I ordered a heart shaped pizza, garlic bread sticks and Mt. Dew for dinner. At least I didn't have to cook! Joe had brought home flowers, chocolate covered cherries and chocolate roses on Friday night :o)
I've been trying to get back into the swing of things. After the trip over Superbowl weekend, I've just been in a funk. I was so jazzed about losing the weight I had and then found out that I was 10 pounds over what I thought... I'm trying really hard not to just throw in the towel. I have to keep telling myself that I still lost the weight, the number is just different.
I'm back on track this week so far and I'm feeling better. Seeing family this weekend really reinforced how shallow they are about weight, but they noticed that Joe and I had both lost a bunch. I noticed that one of the sisters has gained back a lot of what she lost last summer...
I need to work on Louisa's quilt today. I'm hoping to get together with Jen and Mindy tomorrow for some scrapbooking/stamping. I also need to plan Grace's birthday party and clean the house for it. Joe will be home all day Friday, so I'll be able to have him help with some of it. I need to come up with something for our anniversary too.

Friday. I should be busy doing important stuff, but I'm sitting in front of the computer again. Such a let down from the Thursday high. Now I have to pay bills and get the house picked up for any weekend activities. Ooooh. Joy.
Anyway, good news update.
-We are NOT moving to Alaska in the next year.
-The car is fixed and it only cost $72.
-I will get to stop at JoAnn's tonight when we go into town.
The bad news?
-Joe is working next Thursday and the following Monday, so the 5 day vacation is now a 3-day weekend.
-I still have to plan Grace's birthday party and send out invitations.
That's about it for now. It's been a quiet day.

I'm so loving the sun! The house seems so much nicer :o) Maybe that's because I can put coats on the kids and shove them out in the backyard to play when they start to whine.
Thursdays - I look forward to them all week. Survivor night. Followed by CSI. And tomorrow is payday. We made it through another week. Life is good on Thursdays!
The car is in the shop. Joe drove it to the shop (across the street from his work) to have them take a look at the coolant system. We haven't had heat for almost 2 weeks and after the unsafe driving he did on the way to work yesterday (pulled out in front of a car he didn't see coming on the highway) and having to scrape the *inside* of the windshield this morning...It was time to take it in.
I'm hoping they call me soon with the estimate so they can get it fixed this afternoon. Maybe I should just call them?
I took the kids for a walk this morning! I did my 2 mile route in 45 minutes. That includes stops for a juice cup and to pee (Grace) on the side of the road and a couple of pictures (me) to prove we had gotten out. Tristan behaved himself :o)
More good news today - I get to go to a scrapbooking retreat in March!! I reserved my spot today and Joe requested the weekend off. It's going to be $80, but that includes all the meals and a place to sleep for 2 nights! I'm really excited to get away for a couple of days.
Nothing much going on today. I might bake cookies, but then I will want to eat them all.

I have a headache. It could be stress or lack of caffeine.
Everyone is in bed, asleep. I need to get myself there in the next few minutes, but I have to finish cleaning up the kitchen first.
Mindy cancelled on me today - again. She decided to go to her sister's for dinner and drop off the stuff on her way there. She also made the comment that she knew I didn't have anything going on today... ummm, yes I did. Since she cancelled, I got the quilt blocks done that I needed to work on and didn't have to take Grace out in public. That was with the normal laundry, dishes and feeding of kidlets I normally do.
I'm off to clean up the kitchen mess and get to bed. I'm hoping to get up early and do my Tae-Bo in the morning :o)

I think I got enough sleep last night! I even got some sewing time after everyone went to bed.
I'm going somewhere with Mindy today, but I have no idea where. She called from her cell yesterday and was breaking up so badly that all I got was to pull the car seats out of the car to go with her... I guess we'll see when she gets going today.
I talked to Jen yesterday and when she gets back from their vacation, we are going to start getting together and having a crafty day. She has a ton of stamps and also scrapbooks. So far it looks like Wednesdays, since that works for Mindy too.
I need to make birthday invitations for Grace's party. Actually, I need to talk to Joe about having the party first :o)
I think we're heading over to Racheal's house this Sunday for Flo's Boot Camp Graduation Open House. She is only getting 10 days leave, so if we want to see her we're going to have to go over there. It's stuff like this that makes me want to run, not walk, to Alaska.
Speaking of Alaska, Joe wants me to find a rental management place (in case we move within the next year) and also to find out what the pre-pay penalty would be for the mortgage. I'm obviously thrilled to have this duty. If we only waited a year to move, we could just sell the house and go... Did I mention today that my tulips are coming up? And I want to plant roses. I don't think roses grow in Alaska.
I told him if he wanted to move up there so badly that he was welcome to leave the car, make sure there was money in the bank and he could go. Yep, by himself, indefinitely. Instead, he somehow thought that I just needed to be convinced that Alaska was a GREAT idea. So home come the moving expense breakdown forms, the calls from work about the job postings and conversations with his buddies up there and I am delegated all of the foot work. I've already looked for houses online, both in Fairbanks and Eagle River/Anchorage. I found a house that looks great in Fairbanks - now he's talking about Eagle River... AARRGGG!
He's convinced that this is an issue of low self-esteem for me. Yes, everytime I pack up and move to a new state, where I know absolutely no one, I tend to drop into a depression. He is moving within his work system, where he knows everyone, either by reputation or mutual friends and has NEVER done the "moving" stuff. It falls on me to get the utilities and phone hooked up/disconnected, to get the house packed, to keep everything running as if we weren't in the middle of a move and to figure out everything when we get to the new place.
All I want from him is to tell me when we are moving and where and I will arrange it. I'll be stressed out and B****Y, but it will get done.

If you are 3 years old, ANY word, followed by "head" is a bad word. Like noodle-head, pillow-head and sunny-mountain-cup-head. I will never be able to keep a straight face :o)
Joe finally went back to work today, after Sunday and Monday off. It's great when he gets 2 days off in a row, but I am always ready for him to go back :o)
Sunday was quiet. We decided to stay home from church, made a big breakfast and played with the kids. Joe worked a bit in the garage. I went up to the store and got some groceries for the week and rented a couple of movies. Tristan went down for his nap at 4 pm and didn't wake up until 8 pm (when we were putting Grace to bed). He got up, ate a little and went right back to bed. We watched Under the Tuscan Sun - well at least I did - Joe wouldn't finish it and then headed to bed. It was a nice relaxing day.
Monday morning... 5 am: I was awakened to a blinding light. I squinted across the room to see my son grinning by the doorway. I told him 3 times to turn off the light. Not happening, so I slid out of bed and scooped him up. I clicked off the light and shuffled around the corner to his room. I'm talking softly, trying to convince him that it is really too early to be up - he is pretending that he has scissors and is "cutting" my shirt and giggling. Not encouraging. I put him back down on his bed, handed him his sippy cup and oozed back to my bed. He was back up at 6 am, this time trying to climb in bed with his sleeping, dear sister, not what I needed. I sprinted into Grace's room and scooped him up just as he was about to lay down on her head. I made sure Grace was OK, told her it was still early and returned the offender back to his bed, again. This time I got his books and toys and told him to play quietly in his room. By 6:30 am, both kids were up and I was doing my best to ESP Joe into getting up with them. Didn't happen. They played quietly in between their rooms until 7 am.
The kids headed downstairs, with Grace in charge of turning on the cartoons and Joe hopped in the shower. One might think that he would have headed downstairs to supervise the kids while I took a shower, but you would be wrong. We finally made it downstairs a little before 8 am :o)
I made breakfast and got the kids ready for the day. I had a couple of packages to mail at the post office and then we headed to Sears to buy a circular saw that was in their ad. On the way home, we stopped at the Grange Hall for a tool sale. Joe got a socket and driver set for $10.
Lunch was Mac and Cheese. Joe got out his new toys and cut up the remnants of the compost bin. For once, the sun was out and we spent some time plotting where the garden will go and ideas for the other flower gardens. The best news of the day was that my tulips are coming up!! I can't wait!!!
Joe took the kids on a walk in the afternoon so I could have a break and I vacuumed the house really well while they were gone. When they got back, I curled up on the couch and read my book, Tristan took his nap, Grace watched a video and Joe headed down to check out the river. The weather got really cold once the sun set and he was home pretty quickly. That brings us to dinner - pizza... and we put the kids to bed and watched the end of Fear Factor, Joe watched Las Vegas and we watched CSI - Miami in bed.
The moon was awesome last night! It came up right over the mountain and lit up the whole side of the house. It actually took me by surprise, since it was clear and cold last night and I am so used to the rain and clouds right now. I was putting the last dishes in the dishwasher and noticed out of the corner of my eye while I was putting the soap in. The lights were already off and I thought it was someone shining a light in the house -eeeek! I finished up and ran upstairs, called Joe out of bed and showed him out of Grace's window. He thought I saw someone in the yard. Oops - next time I'll tell him I want him to come look at the moon :o)
So far this morning has been pretty quiet. Tristan was up again at 5:20 am, I deposited him back into his bed and got him a cup of milk. Grace woke me up at 8 am, saying that Tristan was downstairs - oops, I didn't hear him get up again - and that he had eaten my chocolate. Before I could get out of bed, Tristan was in the doorway, with a flashlight and chocolate all over his cheeks... It was the only damage - one missing Dove valentine heart of chocolate from the counter. I'm very blessed to have kids who don't try to escape from the house.

I want to go back to bed.
I feel like all I'm doing lately is griping here about stuff. It could be the side effect of having no adults to talk to...
Joe didn't get home last night until 7:45 pm. Tristan fell asleep on the couch waiting for him and Grace was in bed and asleep shortly after 8 pm. We didn't go to Small Group again last night. It started at 7 pm. I had emailed everyone in my Sunday class and said I wouldn't be there, only to have Joe tell me yesterday that he has Sunday and Monday off and that "Of course, we'll be going." AAARRRGGG!!!
I think I'll have to call and cancel his dental appointment for Wednesday. At least that's what I assume he left the card on the counter for me to see. It's like my very own game of Blue's Clues...
Why is it that periods and diarrhea go together? As if you really need to feel worse.
Off to shower and find my rose colored glasses for the rest of the day.

Why is it when I get an itch to do something crafty, that the money just dries up?
We did a little stamping craft for MOPS yesterday and I got out my stuff today. I was happy with the first embossing I did, but the second was melted together. I think I'll cut the first out, color it a bit with chalk and try to use it somewhere else. I really wish that I could afford more stamps and all the gadgets. I priced tools last night at the scrapbook store and I'll have to look online now. I started with the CM stuff and I am intrigued with some of the fiber techniques and metal details available elsewhere. I can't justify any expense right now though. That is the one thing that I miss about working, having money to spend whenever I like :o)
We won't be going to our Bible Study group again tonight. Joe is again working late. He went in sometime around 4 am and won't leave until 6 or 7 pm. No overtime. No special projects. Between the cookies on the computer being constantly deleted and his extra hours, I would start to suspect an affair if he was anyone else.
We had a good talk yesterday about family, houses and moving to Alaska. However, after I told him how I felt, (and I was honest!) he just declared that he was even more determined to go. So, I guess his target date is the Spring of 2005.
Have you ever had one of those days that seems like 3 days in one? Yesterday was like that for me.
I was up and out the door with both kids at 8:15 am to go to MOPS. I had a good break and got to know one of the ladies better. I was joking that she was my new best friend when she won the prize for the day (a set of rubber stamps) and then as I talked to her, found out we also both scrapbook! I'm hoping to get together with her soon!
I dropped off a baby quilt and headed home right after that. Once at home, I grabbed the tax stuff (and Joe) and went *back* into town to get the taxes done. While he waited at H&R Block, I went to the consignment shop around the corner and looked for shoes for Tristan. He had been taking his old ones off in the car, so I assumed that they hurt his little toes :o( I hit the jackpot there - 2 pairs of shoes in really good shape and a bed rail too! I had a credit from the last load of stuff I sold there and the shoes were all on special for $1.99. I got out of there for less than $4!!
The tax appointment went well. We are getting money back, but because of the dispersement we took from the 401k, we are getting about $1000 less than I was hoping. No car for me.
After that, we headed across the street to Fred's and did a bit of shopping. I got a hummingbird feeder from Erik and Tara for Christmas, so I found a garden stake hanger on clearance. I also got a valance for the kitchen window, a binder, a notebook and a folder all on clearance. We bought Grace a clock for her room (pink flower!) and Joe got 3 bags of moss killer so he can attack the lawn. Grand total was about $60. Joe took the kids to eat at the Teriyaki place while I got a haircut, then we stopped for gas and I ran into the scrapbook store while Joe took the kids through the car wash. This explains my further desire to buy new toys today :o)
Once we got home, Joe put up the curtain rod and fixed the stained glass piece hanging in the window. I went to the library to make a couple of copies, picked up some books on hold for me and stopped at the post office. When I got home, I finished cleaning up the kitchen and put the kids to bed in time for Survivor.

I think I've caught up on the laundry. I made the banana bread for tomorrow - and ate (with the kids) most of one loaf. I balanced the checkbook and organized my quilt patterns.
Funny laundry story today...
I wanted to wash 2 chenille throws from the garage. I checked the tag, saw cold water and threw them in the washer. After the cycle, I went to throw the clothes in the dryer and to my shock there were burgundy fuzzies ALL OVER the ENTIRE load of clothes. I pulled the throws out of the washer and shook them off (Think matted dog hair, yes, it was THAT bad) and put them in the dryer on low heat with a little prayer. I had to vacuum the floor to get up all the fuzz from the carpet and when I finished that, the lint-full buzzer went off! I emptied all the fuzz from the screen and restarted the dryer. I ended up emptying the lint catcher 3 times before the throws were dry.
I am happy to report that they are clean, soft and smell great!!! And yes, they are still the same size - despite all the debris :o) Now to see about the rest of the clothes...
OK, quick laundry reboot...The fuzz is GONE!!! Well, except for emptying the trap again :o) And the last load is in the dryer!
Mindy brought me a Mt. Dew to trade for my Tums. I never get indigestion (once when I was pregnant) so she's welcome to have them! I needed something to take the edge off the PMS I'm having today. That explains the depression this past week too. I always get emotional the week before I start.
I've got to go get dinner started. Joe hasn't called to say he's on his way home yet, so I'm not in a big rush. Last night, I made Zatarain's Red Beans and Rice with kielbasa sausage (2 boxes and a full link). It was excellent! Joe even went back for seconds - that puts it into the permanent menu list. I think tonight will be Hot Tuna Sandwich Cups - quick and easy.
Posted by Heidi at 4:31 PM 0 comments
The weatherman lied -- again. It's rainy and cold today. On the bright side, I am getting a lot of laundry done!
I've got to make banana bread today for MOPS tomorrow. Joe has the day off and he wants to clean up the garage while I'm gone with the kids. How does it happen that I still have to take them when he has the day off? I know they will have fun, but they will be upset that we can't go play afterward like we normally do. We will have to rush home, pick up Joe and head back into town to get the taxes done. I think I'll check the appointments in Lake S. instead of the one we normally go to. That way I can get my haircut and go to Target!
I finally got the computer desk cleared off yesterday. I still have piles hanging around here and there, but I don't have the binders to put some of it away. I'm about half done transferring the files over for the new year, but since I'm behind on filing last months bills, I haven't been too worried.
There hasn't been too much talk this week about Alaska. I was seriously thinking about sending Joe up there for a year without us. He gets so one-track-minded sometimes and it drives me crazy. He's already obsessing about all the fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and land we could get.
He hasn't considered any concerns that I've brought up to him and has completely forgotten about his promise of not pursuing Alaska after buying this house. I would like to buy seeds and start a garden for the summer, paint the kids' rooms and do some minor improvements, but I don't even know if I'll get to see the benefits. I don't want to waste my time if we're moving in a month.
I've been struggling again with my depression. I hate feeling unsettled. I like the life we've made here, just in time to rip it all up and move again. I hate starting over without knowing anyone. I've done it 3 times for him and I'm not looking forward to doing it with the kids. I also know than when we get to Alaska, we won't be coming back. At least here we are still connected to the rest of the U.S..
Maybe I'll feel better next week.

I have no energy today.
I hate having money issues.
I really need to get off the computer and get some stuff done today.
I went to the store last night after I put everyone in bed. I was home by 8:30 pm and didn't go to sleep until midnight. It was just so nice to sit downstairs in the quiet and sew.
I'm paying for the lack of sleep this morning. Joe either didn't set his alarm or got up and turned it off, but woke up at 5 am - LATE and was out the door at 5:30 am - no breakfast or coffee and didn't take lunch. Tristan was up at 6:45 am - right after I had gotten back to sleep. Grace followed about 7 am and I tried to sleep while they played on the bed, only made it until 7:45 am before I got up to shower.
I finally got the guest pass to Bally's in the mail yesterday. Now to figure out where and when to go! It really took the wind out of my sails to see the accurate number on Erik and Tara's scale this weekend. I'm back to where I started at the beginning of January, but most of all it means I was so much heavier than I thought to begin with. I need to lose 15 more pounds in 2 months to meet my goal of 25 pounds, but will have to add another 25 pound goal after that to get to my ideal weight goal of 130.
Joe said if I make 125-130 by Christmas he would make sure I got $1000 for a new wardrobe and he would buy me a piece of new jewelry (over $250) to celebrate.
I'm thinking I'll take the kids out for a walk in the stroller more the next couple of weeks since the weather is supposed to be sunny! It's hard because they want to ride their bikes and I don't get a workout. Maybe the gym will help with that!

The kids are upstairs watching Sleeping Beauty in our room. I was too lazy to move the DVD player back downstairs. So far no need for me to run up there!
We got back from Port Orchard about 8:15 pm last night. The heat is out in the car - outside temps were barely above freezing. I was chilled through by the time we got home. I think it's a fan belt because the car keeps running really hot too. I think we will be in need of a new car sooner rather than later.
I have a massive headache today. I fell off the Mt. Dew wagon this weekend and added coffee to the mix. I did pretty good with the overeating/turning down snacks and I don't feel like I overdid it, but I'm feeling the Mt. Dew today.
Mindy is starting to go into preterm labor. They were leaving for the hospital last night when we pulled in. She's heading to work tonight - I tried to talk to her, but she won't listen. I'm guessing she's at 30 weeks.
Flo will be graduating from basic training on the 13th - instead of last Friday. I had to email Racheal to get the info. Now there is a tentative plan for an open house the 15th in P.A. and I wanted to do a birthday party for Grace the next Saturday (the 21st) on her actual birthday. Money will be tight unless we get the tax return back by then. Then we're back to the car situation too.
Alaska is sounding really good about now. If we didn't have the 2 year penality on the mortgage, I would move tomorrow just to get away from some of the stuff going on here.
